Contact Lens Guarantee
Contact Lens Fitting and Evaluation:
Our doctors are recognized experts in fitting a variety of contact lenses. Contact fitting of the proper contact lens require knowledge of lens materials and dimensions, tear film assessment, corneal topography, and a tailored prescription matching your visual needs.
Contact lenses are classified as medical devices by the FDA. They are not considered over-the-counter (OTC) devices. This means that contact lens wears is under the supervision of an eye doctor and that that doctor has to evaluate and re-evaluate the fir of your contacts every year in order to determine the correct prescription for your eyes.
Contact lens Fitting & Evaluation Process & Fees:
We start with diagnostic/trial contact lenses to assess the vision, fit, and comfort of the contact lens on the eye. These lenses are the same as the lenses that can be purchased later. If the diagnostic/trial contact lenses do not provide clear and/or comfortable vision, then the box of contact lenses that you purchase, will yield the same result. When needed, soft diagnostic/trial lenses are included in the evaluation fee. Gas permeable contact lenses do not have trial lenses available since they are custom order and require a purchase up front.
A contact lens fitting and evaluation is a separate procedure from a routine eye examination. vision insurance companies consider contact lenses ‘not necessary’, where most of the time, these charges are not covered in full.
The fitting and evaluation process will be different for every patient and the fees are based on the complexity of the fitting and evaluation. Fees for services are non-refundable.
Contact lens fitting/evaluations include sixty (60) days of follow-up care related to contact lenses. It is the patient’s responsibility to schedule all necessary follow-up appointments in a timely manner. Follow-up care is limited to the vision, fit, and comfort of the contact lens. Examples include changing the power, brand, modality of wear, loss of contact lens, or if the contact lens is underneath a patient’s eyelid. It does not include medically related follow-ups such as eye infections, abrasions, or any treatment that requires a written ophthalmic prescription medication. Medical examination fees apply.
Furthermore, patients that have not worn contact lenses before must receive contact lens training. Contact lens training includes instructions on insertion and removal of contact lenses, contact lens hygiene and lens care, proper wearing schedule, and counseling on ocular conditions that can occur for contact lens wearers. This is an additional fee on top of the contact lens fitting fee.
Prescription Expiration: One year
Contact lens prescriptions expire in one (1) year in most cases. It is rare that contact lenses prescriptions are written for longer than 1 year. Contact lens prescriptions can be filled within this period as long as it does not exceed one year’s worth of wear. Although contact lens modalities can range from one-day to one-month, the reason behind its shorter duration is because a contact lens is in direct contact with your eye. The interaction may change on a microscopic level over time that can lead to ocular health problems.
Back-up Glasses:
It is important that the patient has a back-up pair of glasses when also using contact lenses. The eyes need a break from contact lens wear. It is recommended that the eyes have a few hours a day without contact lenses on the eyes. More importantly, there will be days where the eyes cannot tolerate contact lens wear and wearing glasses will be the only option to see. Such events include but not limited to: eye infections, allergies, no contact lenses left, and ripped contact lenses.
Finalization of Contact Lens Prescription:
After the eye doctor has written a final prescription, it is expected that the patient will purchase retail boxes for everyday wear. The diagnostic/trial contact lens is not meant to last the entire year. The diagnostic/trial contact lens last depending on the modality of wear. Usually a soft contact lens will either last for 1-day, 2-weeks, or 1-month.
Insurance Benefits:
Many vision insurance companies do not pay for contact lens services even if they have a material allowance. Most vision insurance offer either a benefit for glasses or contact lenses. It is rare that the material contact lens allowance will cover an annual supply of contact lenses. Most patients will have an out-of-pocket expense.
Torn or Lost Contact Lenses:
We do not warranty lenses against loss or damage. In some cases, we can supply a replacement soft lens from our diagnostic fitting set. Modern soft contact lenses are very durable and rarely tear. If tearing or damage is a consistent issue, a review of handling and cleaning procedures should be evaluated to help prevent future problems. Diagnostic lenses are not available for gas permeable prescriptions.
Return & Exchanges:
We can return or exchange most soft contact lenses as long as the box is un-opened, un-marked, and still factory sealed. In most cases, there is a 20% restocking fee. Gas permeable contacts are custom and are not returnable.
Our Guarantee:
The health of your eyes and your satisfaction are very important to us. If we are unable to fit you with contact lenses, we will apply your contact lens fitting and evaluation fee to the purchase of glasses in our optical department.
For patients that purchased boxes of contact lenses from us, you may return one box, per eye of open contact lenses and all factory sealed contact lens boxes within thirty (30) days of purchase for credit towards the purchases of glasses in our optical department.
When you purchase an annual supply of contact lenses from us, we will exchange any defective lenses and supply you with an emergency pair, if needed.
