Serial Testing
A battery of dry eye tests will be evaluated and re-examined over time to check its progression.
The following describes themore frequent tests we use:
The following describes themore frequent tests we use:
1. Sodium Fluorescein Staining
The presence of NaFl staining indicates epithelial breakdown. If the cornea stains positively this indicates a more severe case of dry eye.
2. Tear Break Up Time
This provides you with information as to whether the disease is evaporative in nature or due to a decreased tear production.
3. Tear Meniscus Height
The volume of the tear meniscus on a 0-4 scale. Although this is an objective test, it is very valuable in assessing why the conjunctiva may appear dry and injected.
4. Meibomography
The imaging of the Meibomian glands. This provides detailed information regarding the function of the gland, or its ability to produce a healthy lipid tear film layer.
